GOOD SOUP

As our final third year film this was a high stakes operation and I'm proud to have worked on this project as Lead Animator, prop rigger, groom artist and additional artwork.

Good Soup is a short 3D animated film following the chaotic escapades of a hungry old man as he tries to open a can of classic tomato soup.

ABOVE - My final shots in the film, thanks to a strong team of animators we were able to divide the workload fairly and delegate sufficient time towards animating. We filmed plenty or references for the physical comedy and yet when we began animating we had to remember to age up the mannerisms to suit the character.
ABOVE - The chainsaw shot was originally longer and went through several revisions including my own, in the end we prioritised the overall pace of the montage and ended up simplifying the chainsaw shot.

Hair groom created using Xgen, props rigged in Maya.

ABOVE - Lighting paint overs done by myself in Photoshop to emphasise the intensity of the scenes, for inspiration I studied the greyscale technique that many concept artists use in order to balance out the values. This paid off as it helped me manipulate the viewer to draw their eye towards important elements in each shot given that they would only be onscreen for a short period of time.
